Villager Mall Tops Capital Budget

The long-awaited redevelopment of the Villager Mall on Madison 's South Side tops the list of projects Mayor Dave Cieslewicz is proposing to fund in his 2008 capital budget.

The city would spend $6.8 million to renovate space and add a building for health, education and social service providers, plus $2.2 million to triple the size of the library at the city-owned mall on Park Street near the Beltline.  read more »

Delivery Driver Scares Off Assailants With Pizza, Bat

A pizza delivery driver fended off a group of teens trying to rob him on the North Side by throwing pizzas at his would-be assailants Tuesday night and then dispersing the group with a baseball bat, Madison police said.

According to police, the 25-year-old man was attempting to deliver pizza on the 3800 block of Hanover Street at around 10 p.m. Three older teens approached him, while a group of about 12 other teens stood nearby.  read more »

Greener Lake View Hill

Two enhancements to Lake View Hill Park’s ground maintenance plan are being piloted this year. The changes follow lengthy consideration by the Friends of Lake View Hill Park, discussions with Dane County Parks personnel and contractors, and a public hearing last August.

Reduced Mowing

Portions of the lawn near the old chapel west of the park are being allowed to grow out, for eventual restoration to oak savannah prairie.  read more »
