Co-housing Neighborhoods Blossom in Madison

The recent housing slump in Madison and the rest of nation has started to feel a lot like winter in Wisconsin: long, cold and with seemingly no end in sight.

But under the thick blanket of real estate recession, one crop of housing has not only stayed strongly rooted, but has also continued to spread its seeds. Ald. Michael Schumacher opened Monday's north side Community Police Meeting at the Warner Park Recreation Center with a motto that was carried out: "You talk. We listen."

Except for five-minute responses at the end by Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and Police Chief Noble Wray, the two-hour meeting consisted of residents standing one after another to express their safety and crime concerns and suggest solutions.  read more »

Celebrate Our Lakes With An Ocean Of Fun

A small army of shovel- and rake-wielding volunteers will head to the shorelines the next two Saturdays for the 20th straight year of spring cleaning of weeds, trash and gunk from the water's edge of Dane County's five main lakes.

The cleanups are a central focus of the 13th annual Take a Stake in the Lakes week of activities, with other activities ranging from the first Clean Lakes Festival to ski shows, rowing camps and pontoon rides, all in celebration of Madison's greatest natural resource.  read more »
